Biography
Aramais Vardani Hovsepian, known as Arman Hovsepian, was an Iranian Armenian actor born on February 21, 1921, in Tabriz. He began his acting career in school theaters and gained recognition with a major role in the film "Namus" in 1940, marking his entry into nonprofessional theater. In 1954, he moved to Tehran and joined the theater group of Ararat Club, collaborating with renowned figures such as Joseph Vaezian, Samuel Khachikian, and Aramais Aghamalian.
Arman Hovsepian made his screen debut in Khachikian's film "The Return" (1953) and continued to act in notable films, including "A Girl From Shiraz," "Crossroads of Incidents," "Blood and Grace," "Storm in Our Town," "A Cry at Midnight," and "Apprehension." He was recognized as one of the distinctive actors in Iranian cinema during the 1950s and 1960s. His on-screen characters typically portrayed rich individuals facing bankruptcy or serious challenges.
In addition to acting, Arman ventured into directing and producing films. In 1965, he directed and produced "Bride of the Sea" and went on to produce five films. He took on multiple roles as the director, producer, and actor in "The Tenant" (1972). He also collaborated with directors Mohammad Deljou and Amir Mojahed, acting and producing two films, "Cronies" (1974) and "The Night of the Loners" (1975).
Arman Hovsepian passed away on August 18, 1980, at the age of 59 in Barcelona. He was laid to rest at the Christian Armenian Burastan Cemetery in Tehran.
