Sorb : سرب : a film directed and written by Masoud Kimiai, released in 1988, narrates the story of a young Jewish Iranian couple, Daniel and Munes, in the late 1940s, who dream of emigrating to the Promised Land (Israel). Their journey takes a tragic turn when they face opposition from the Haganah, a Jewish paramilitary organization, leading to the murder of their uncle by the group. This incident forces them to flee and hide, embroiling them in a series of events that test their resolve and survival.
Set in Tehran in the early 1950s, Daniel and Munes, like many other Jews, wish to migrate to Israel. However, their plans are thwarted by their uncle Ya'qub, an opponent of Zionism, and the subsequent conflict with the Haganah. Following Ya'qub's murder by a member of the organization, Mirza Mohsen, a devout neighbor who came to assist, is wrongfully arrested and imprisoned for the murder. Knowing the true identity of the murderer, Daniel and Munes are compelled to live in hiding, seeking any means to leave the country.
In a twist of fate, Nouri, the brother of Mirza Mohsen, sets out to prove his brother's innocence by finding Daniel and Munes to testify in court. Meanwhile, the murderer is also on their trail, determined to eliminate any witnesses to his crime. The climax unfolds dramatically in court, where Daniel is targeted for assassination. In a heroic act, Nouri sacrifices himself to save Daniel, ensuring his presence in court to testify.
