Aammeh Pasand : فیلم عامه پسند : The film "Unpopular," directed, written, and produced by Soheil Beiraghi, is a crowd-pleaser released in 2019. It made its debut at the 38th Fajr Film Festival in the Simorgh Competition section.
The story revolves around a middle-aged woman who, after years of effort and dedication to her life, discovers her husband's betrayal. She decides to return to her hometown and change her way of life, but her unconventional changes are not readily accepted by society.
Regarding the film's title, Beiraghi has mentioned that despite its name, it holds a critical stance towards this phenomenon. The English title of the film, "Unpopular," reflects this perspective.
"Unpopular" is the final installment of Beiraghi's trilogy about women in society, all set in Shahreza. The central characters in his previous two films were portrayed by Leila Hatami and Baran Kosari, representing women of the fifties and sixties decades, respectively. In "Unpopular," the main character represents a woman from the forties, portrayed by Fatemeh Motamed-Arya.
Beiraghi has denied any intentional thematic link between the films, stating that the trilogy concept emerged unintentionally based on circumstances and the perceived resonance of his works. He emphasized that "Unpopular" diverges from his previous films in terms of script and direction. While his earlier screenplays followed classical patterns with ups and downs, "Unpopular" adopts a fragmented, anti-narrative approach, shifting temporal structures.
